Beverly Doran Tichenor, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 26, 2013 at her home in Hurricane. She was born September 7, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lewis Powell and Velma Long Doran.

Beverly spent her youth in the Salt Lake City area, graduating from South High School in 1935. She attended LDS Business College and completed her secretarial training at Armstrong Business College after her family moved to Berkeley, California. She married Gerald Edmonson Tichenor, "Jerry", in 1940 at Minden, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Oakland California LDS Temple in 1969. They lived in the San Francisco Bay Area until 1977, when Jerry retired and they moved to Hurricane, Utah.

Beverly enjoyed camping, hunting, gardening and was a hard worker. She was an avid genealogist. She enjoyed music and had a lovely alto voice. She was a great cook and seamstress, crocheted many beautiful afghans, sewed prize-winning quilts, raised fuchsias, African violets, canaries, and many champion Afghan Hounds. She was a longtime member of the Alice Louise Reynolds club. She never did anything halfway. She put her whole heart into everything that she did.

She loved the Lord and spent her life in the service of others. In the LDS Church, she served as Relief Society President in 3 different wards, YW President, and in many other callings including Scouting. She served as a visiting teacher for over 60 years. Her favorite calling was serving in the German Name Extraction Program, which she did for over 25 years. When they discontinued it in 2010, she switched to German indexing on her computer and worked up until a week before her passing.

Beverly is survived by her daughters, Edith (Doug) Hanson of Phoenix, AZ; Gerri (David) Hinton, of Hurricane, (currently serving an LDS mission in Knoxville, Tennessee); son, Mark (Jennifer) Tichenor, of Mesquite, NV, and sister, Lois Thomas, of Cedar City, UT, 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald; parents; brother Ray Doran; sister Maurine Doran; and cousin Ruth Minson Dufrenne King who was raised in her home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Hurricane 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 155 E. 1050 N., Hurricane, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service at the Chapel from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Hurricane City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of McMillan Mortuary (435-688-8880). Condolences may be shared at www.mcmillanmortuary.com.

Special thanks go to Southern Utah Home Care & Hospice and to grandchildren, Trevor and Ashley Hinton, whose tender care allowed Beverly to be able to remain in her own home until her passing.
