Jeanette Ada Ballew Casteel, age 79, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully, Saturday, July 15, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a longtime resident of Knox County (Halls Crossroads), Tennessee where she was a former Woman of the Year. Jeanette was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church.

Jeanette was also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary teacher sorority, where she served as State president and local chapter, Tennessee Gamma President. She was also an active member of the Knox County Retired Teachers Association where she served as president. Jeanette was a long-time member of the Knox County Education Association. She was a teacher for 24 years at Halls Elementary School. Jeanette also served her community by coaching youth softball and serving on the Halls Softball Commission.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Price Ballew and Aline Ballew, her former spouse, Richard Casteel; siblings, Maxine Humberd, Arlene Barnes, Emma McFarland, Geneva Walker, Moses Ballew, Wallace Ballew, Stinnett Ballew, Linda Ballew and Sandra Yarbrough; niece, Sabrina Ballew. She is survived by her children, Mark (Tony) Casteel and Leslie Casteel; her sisters, Naomi Patterson and Ann (Jim) Smith. The family would like to thank very special friends, Lynn Gibson, Brenda Chambers, and Loretta Harrington for everything they have done for Jeanette over the years. Pallbearers are David Ballew, Burce Barnes, Tim Bright, Jeff Patterson, Victor Walker and Jason Yarbrough.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, July 24, 2023 at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel with funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM. Reverend Kent Williams, officiating. The family will also receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Mountain Springs Baptist Church, Old Fort, Tennessee with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
