Sarah Van Wort and her husband C.C. 'Cornelius' Van Wort resided at 208 S. Tom Street in Webb City, Missouri in 1905. He was selling insurance at that time. They had 2 sons, William age 15 and Andrew age 11. The boys went with some other children out north of town to swim in Center Creek. They were unfamiliar with depths of the creek and as they waded out, at some point stepped off into a deeper part of the creek and disappeared and both drowned.

After that, some time later the couple moved back to the Howell county area and took up farming. Mr. Van Wort died in 1946.
Sarah died in 1949 due to undetermined heart issues according to her Missouri Death Certificate at age 83. She had lived in West Plains for 28 years prior to her death.
