Emma was born in Centerton, Indiana until she was five years old. At that time, along with other pioneer families, they made up a covered wagon caravan and traveled to Nebraska. Childhood experiences in this pioneer family have become early American history throughout Indiana, Iowa and Nebraska. Part of the family properties later became the site of Ottumwa, Iowa.
As the young bride of Allison Kinnison, she came to Mt. Moriah, Missouri, to make her home and won the hearts of the entire Kinnison family. Her husband passed away leaving her widowed with two small children. Her daughter, Rosa died at the age of eight, and her son, Jesse L. Kinnison, lived on a farm in Bethany until his death in November 1953.
In May, 1890, she was married to Charles Reuben Lawrence of Bethany. Again, she won the hearts of the entire Lawrence family, and has lived here the entire time. She has been the beloved "Aunt Emma" to all nephews, nieces and their children and grandchildren.

Emma married Allison Kinnison Jan 26 1884.
