Leonard Glenn Hurley, 86, of Sarasota, FL, died on Jan. 21, 2013.

Born in Ashe County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Marie Davis Hurley and the late Leonard Lee Hurley.

Leonard served his country in the United States Army and was a World War II Veteran.

He spent most of his working life in a career in carpentry, masonry and building in Ashe County, North Carolina. He continued pursuing these skills while residing in Sarasota. Leonard also enjoyed singing with Gospel trios and quartets. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Sarasota.

He is survived by his loving wife, Verda Mae Johnson Black Hurley of Sarasota; two sons, Daniel and Hayden Hurley of Ashe County, North Carolina; one sister, Laura Cleary of Metairie, LA and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. He also counted as dear and close friends, Elmer and Jean Cousins of Sarasota.

The family will receive friends from 10-11AM Saturday morning, January 26, 2013 at Friendship Baptist Church - 5700 Palmer Blvd. Sarasota. The funeral will be held Saturday morning, January 26, 2013 at 11AM at Friendship Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Wilson officiating.

The interment with full military honors will be held Monday morning, January 28, 2013 at 9:30 AM at Sarasota National Cemetery.
