Man Shot, Dies

East Prairie, Dec. 9. - Taft Parker, a taxicab driver, is being held in the county jail at Charleston for investigation following the death of Arie Edward Allen. 24 years old.

Sheriff Walter Beck said that Mr. Allen died of a bullet wound in the chest at St. Mary's Hospital at Cairo, Ill., Monday afternoon. The sheriff said the man was wounded at 9:30 o'clock Sunday night while at Kimes Garage, a half mile west of East Prairie.

The sheriff said that Mr. Parker had taken a fare to the garage and while there he and Ira Allen and the latter's brother, Oscar Allen, became engaged in an altercation. Later Parker returned and in a resumption of the fight Ira Allen was shot.

Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at the Dogwood Methodist Church by Rev. Orby Beard. Burial, with Shelby service, was in Dogwood Cemetery.

Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Allen of East Prairie; a sister, Mrs. Thelma Smith of East Prairie and two brothers, Oscar Allen of East Prairie and Arthur Allen of Wolf Island.
