George McKinley Acker, 63, of 419 N. 4th St., Newport, street commissioner for Newport for many years, died Wednesday at the borough building.
Mr. Acker was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Newport, the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, Newport Lions Club, vice president of Citizens Fire Co., Newport, and was a member of the Cumberland County and the Pennsylvania Fire Police Assns.
He was a member of Newport Lodge 381 F & AM; the Harrisburg Consistory and the Zembo Temple of the Shrine and was active with the Stewards of the Shrine.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Flossie Hoffman Acker; one son, Henry A., Newport; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth F. Burd, Hershey; two brothers, Charles B., Newport, and William H., Harrisburg, and two sisters, Mrs. J. C. Flickinger, Newport, and Mrs. Edith Frownfelter, Liverpool.
Services will be held at 3:00 P. M. Sunday at the funeral home, Walnut street, Newport with the Rev. Gerald Reidel, his pastor, assisted by the Rev. Luke Buffenmyer, officiating. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7:00 P. M. Saturday. Masonic services will be held at 8:45 P. M. Saturday.
