William Ledbetter's first wife was Mary Jane Fairless. They were married about 1854, in Union County, Illinois. William Ledbetter and Mary Jane (Fairless) Ledbetter had one child, Andrew Jackson Ledbetter, who survived into adulthood.

William Ledbetter's second wife was Mary Jane Asbery, who he married on Feb. 27, 1859. William Ledbetter and Mary Jane (Asbery) Ledbetter had the following children listed in the 1870 U.S. census:

Andrew Jackson Ledbetter, age 13
Marion Ledbetter, age 9
Charles J. Ledbetter, age 8
Berry Ledbetter, age 5
Sarah Ledbetter, age 3
Ellen Ledbetter, age 3 months
In addition, George Ledbetter was born Sept. 25, 1872.

William Ledbetter's third wife was Mary Jane (Parigeon) Bagley. They were married on June 16, 1875.

William Ledbetter and Mary Jane (Bagley) Ledbetter had the following children:
Cornelious A. "Pet" Ledbetter, born Jan. 15, 1877
Benonia "Oney" Ledbetter, born Jan. 21, 1879
Nellie Ledbetter, born Sept. 6, 1885

As you can see from the above, there is much confusion concerning the wives of William Ledbetter, all named Mary Jane.

"Uncle Bill Ledbetter is doing a big business this season in making sorghum molasses. He is turning out 35 gal. daily and is of extra quality. No flies on Uncle Bill when it comes to making sorghum in Kinkaid."
