Thursday 26 February 1942:

"Funeral services for Robert P. Codire, 22, who died Sunday morning at Allegany Hospital, Cumberland, from injuries received in an automobile accident at Ridgeley, were held Tuesday morning at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport. Rev. Victor Dowgiallo, assistant pastor, celebrated Requiem High Mass. Rev. Monsignor A. Scarpati, pastor, was in the sanctuary. Interment was in the parish cemetery.

Members of Tri-Towns Fire company No. 1 provided an escort and served as pallbearers. Representatives of Fort Ashby, Keyser, Bloomington and Potomac Fire companies attended. The pallbearers were Angelo Barbarito, Joseph Panepinto, Allan Hill, Louis Amoruso, John Thompson and W. K. McRobie.

The young man, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Codire, of West Fairview Street, was a graduate of Piedmont High School, and was employed in the laboratory at the Luke plant of the W.Va. Pulp and Paper company.

The fatal accident occurred Saturday evening when his automobile overturned on a sharp curve leading to the Western Maryland railway tracks in Ridgeley. He sustained a crushed chest and internal injuries. His brother, William Codire, and Angelo Barbarito, who were passengers in the car, escaped with minor cuts and bruises.
