This memorial is maintained for the children and grandchildren of Ann Elizabeth Schier Powel.

༻✿ Ann Elizabeth Schier Powell was the daughter of William Herman and Minnie Christine Mehlenbeck Schier. Ann Elizabeth Schier Powell was born in Peoria, Illinois on September 18, 1922. Died August 11, 1992. Buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Albuquerque, New Mexico.

♥William Herman Schier was born on August 6, 1891 in Burlington, Iowa. Died December 1, 1975 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
♥Minnie Christine Schier was born October 24, 1891 Peoria, Illinois. Died May 19, 1970, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

My mom Ann married my dad Thomas Herman Powell, born Springfield, Ohio, June 1, 1919. They were married in Oklahoma City, OK on February 23, 1943.  My dad and mother corresponded by mail, after meeting on a blind date in Oklahoma City.  Not sure what date they met. My mother was in Registered Nurses Training at St. Anthony's hospital in Oklahoma City, and my dad was training at a nearby Oklahoma Air Force Base, Will Rogers Field.

They married (I believe it was) in St. James Catholic Church in matching blue suits, as my dad was heading back to the war.  My mother's dad did not approve of the marriage, and would not "give her away" but did attend the wedding as did her mother and siblings.  As time went on, my mother's dad came to love our dad and all was fine.  Some time after their marriage, my mother "drove" with a girlfriend all the way to San Diego, CA from Oklahoma City and lived out the duration of the war time with Grandaddy John Powell and Grandma Rachel Edith.  They all got along quite well!  I believe my dad returned to the US after the war sometime in mid 1945.
He always thought it was my mother's prayers that kept him safe.  She went to Mass every single day while she lived with Grandma & Grandaddy Powell in San Diego and prayed for him.  They had a church (St. John the Baptist) right down the block from their house.

Our mother Ann died from the result of having Parkinson's Disease.  The disease itself doesn't kill you, but you die from the fact that your trachea and esophagus malfunction.  She ingested food particles into her lungs over time and went into a coma.  She was in a coma for a couple of days, woke up. . . looked up, smiled, and began reaching up. . . then passed away.  We believe someone "came" for her and she was very happy, when she died.

My sisters, Suzanne and Cecile were with our mom Ann and our dad when they passed from this earth. She passed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, August 11, 1992.
~Maureen Powell Gardner

May our sweet Ann rest in the heavenly peace of our Lord Jesus Christ forever. Mom is now reunited with our Dad for always.
