Following an illness of several weeks, P. H. Hunter, 62, passed away Tuesday morning and his remains were interred the following day in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Funeral services were held at the home of a kinsman, Virgil Eiland on Cedar St.
Mr. Hunter was the owner of what a few years back was one of the most completely equipped and stocked farms in the county, and he had been a farmer of recognized ability. For several years preceding his death his health had been in a state that had prevented his former active participation in these pursuits, though he continued to farm throughout his life. He was known as a man of unsurpassed sincerity and dependability, the community having never produced a citizen who enjoyed more thoroughly the unstinted confidence of his fellows than he did. He was a consistent member of the Baptist church.
He was the son of the late Henry McElroy Hunter, one of the outstanding citizens of Noxabee County in religious, business and political relationships. These qualities in the father that were handed down to the son made the name of Hunter one that stands for trust worthiness and successful citizenship.
In early manhood Mr. Hunter was married to Miss Josephine Hunter, also of Noxabee, and the two were the parents of three boys, Henry H., Ellis T., and Phelan H., Jr. all three of whom survive their father. There is also a young adopted daughter, Mary Myrtle.
There were a number of relatives and friends from other points who attended the funeral, among these being, in addition to the three sons, Mrs. Glover Story of Forest Miss.; Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Ellis, Meridian Miss.; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hunter, Birmingham, Ala.; S. M. Thomas, Jackson, Miss.. The surviving sons are from Starkville and New Orleans.
