Esther M. Hummel, 98, formerly of Hyde and most recently of Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at the center.
Born Aug. 10, 1900, in Bailey Settlement, Pike Township, she was a daughter of Charles W. and R. Avis (Dressler) Lawhead.
Mrs. Hummel was a homemaker. She was a member of the Centre Grove Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and had been a member of the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Boyd (Deloris) Vokes and Mrs. Samuel (Betty) Kramer, both of Clearfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry D. and Donna Hummel of Clearfield; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Genevieve Clouser of McCallisterville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jesse J. Hummel, whom she married on March 23, 1921, and who died on July 25, 1982; a brother, Theodore Lawhead; and five sisters, Isabel Sellman, Annabel Bell, Muriel Nelson, Dorothy Fairman and Ruth Thomas.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at The Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield, with the Rev. Gary L. Daugherty officiating.
Interment will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the hour of services at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Centre Grove United Methodist Church, PO Box 268, Hyde, Pa. 16843.
