Lewis Eckhart 80, retired railroad man of Big Four, died in his home at 1314 N Sixth St at 1:20 pm. He is survived by three sons, Martin W, Jacob C, and George H Eckhart; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Mary Parks of Oak Hill Ohio, Mrs. Christina Gardner of Columbus, Mrs. Phoebe Colburn of Minford Ohio and Mrs. Emma Coriell of Portsmouth Ohio. He was a member of the Great View Lodge. K of P, Fifth Ave U B Church, New York Central-Big Four Retired Employees Traffic Club of Columbus. Funeral services will be at the residence on N Sixth St Tues at 2:30 pm. Interment at Union Cemetery by Amos & McDonald.

Lewis Eckhart was born Nov 8, 1853, in Scioto County, Ohio, the son of German immigrants, Jacob Eckhart and Mary Marillis Elizabeth Schearer. On Feb 14, 1875, in Beaver, Pike County, Ohio, he took as his wife, Christina Barbara Hines, the daughter of Christian Hines and Eve Catherine Kuntzman, also German immigrants. Lewis and Christina made their first home in Beaver, migrated to Darby, OH, then settled in the Columbus area where they spent the rest of their lives. They raised five children, four sons and one daughter.
His wife, Christina, died in 1917, at age 65, and was buried in the Union Cemetery. Lewis remarried on Feb 20. 1919, to widow, Josephine McCardle Dickerson, who died but a few weeks before him in April.
