Chester E. Eckman, sixty, Conestoga R1, died Saturday at 4:10 p.m. in Lancaster General Hospital after an illness of one year. He was born in E. Lampeter Twp., son of George E. and Susan Pickle Eckman. He was a retired farmer and a member of the River Corner Mennonite Church. He is survived by his wife, Maude L. Hersh Eckman, at home, and 10 children: Frank H. Eckman, Ogonquit, Maine; Maude H., wife of William R. Miller, Conestoga R1; Anna H., wife of Menno M. Good, Atglen; Chester H. Eckman, Lititz R1; George H. Eckman, Kinzer R1; John H. Eckman, Alum Bank, Pa.; Oswell H. Eckman; and Earl H. Eckman, at home; Roy H. Eckman, Conestoga R2; and Martha H., wife of Edwin Harkins, at home. Also surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth, wife of Christian Bender, Millersville R1; Esther, wife of Milton W. Hess, Columbia R2; and a brother, Sanford E. Eckman, Lancaster. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. (Lancaster New Era - May 2, 1949)
