"George Aikens, aged 43 years, life-long resident of the vicinity of Spartansburg, passed away yesterday at Columbus, Warren county, after a long illness, the past two months of which he had been confined to the bed. He was [the] son of Mr and Mrs Frank Aikens of Cambridge Springs, and was born and lived until a short time ago, just west of Spartansburg. He is survived by his widow, Mrs Gertrude Rodgers (sic) [Rogers] Aikens, and six children, besides the parents, a brother, Delmer Aikens of Clymer, NY, and two sisters, Mrs Mark Waterman of Erie and Miss Bertha Aiken[s] at home. He enjoyed a large acquaintance and was held in high esteem. Funeral services will be conducted from the Spartansburg M E church on Saturday at 2 pm, with interment in Rose Hill cemetery in that village."
