Russell died before the 1900 Census.
James Thomas Raines was not the son of Russell & Mary Eliza (Anderson) Raines. Although there was a male named Thomas on the 1880 Lamar County, Texas Census this was actually her daughter Tommie Louisa (Raines) Nettles. She was born 25 Aug 1875 in Hopkins County, Texas and passed away 07 Aug 1963 in Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas. On the 1900 Census her mother Mary Eliza is listed as widowed (Her husband Russell R. Raines having passed away in Paris, Lamar County Texas in 1886) and that she had 6 children and all were living. Tommie L. Raines is listed as being born in Texas Aug. 1875. She is listed here with four of her siblings, to wit: sister Willie, brother Leonard, sister Cora, brother Russell and brother Robert. The one child not listed on the 1900 census with them was her brother Russell Jackson Raines, born in 1882, which completes the 6 of 6 children her mother, Mary Eliza, lists on the census. Tommie is also listed as living with her mother in Paris, Lamar County, Texas on the 1910 census along with brother Leonard and his wife Annie (Roach) Raines. On this census the surname is spelled Rains. I have sent edits for all of Mary Eliza Raines' children except her brother Robert G. Raines. I am still looking for him. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I do have the records if you wish to see them.
With kind regards,
Rick Yaeger
