Mrs. C. L. Wallace received a telegram Wednesday noon stating her father, Jas. F. Bates had died at his home at Shambaugh an hour before.

Mr. and Mrs. Wallace will leave Friday morning for Shambaugh to attend the funeral services which will be held there at 10 AM. Burial will be that afternoon in the Coon Rapids Cemetery.

Mr. Bates, 88 years old at the time of his death, was a veteran of the Civil War. He came to this community in an early day and bought a farm near White Rock where he lived until about 1905. He came to Coon Rapids to live after leaving the farm and made this his home until about 1910 when he moved to Shambaugh where he has since resided.
Most of his active life was spent here Coon Rapids where he was a member of the G. A. R. Post. He will be well remembered by the old-timers here by his nickname of "Doc" Bates.
