Margaret Elizabeth Ferrell McAlister, 91, of Shenandoah, passed away Jan. 19, 2013, at her home.
Mrs. McAlister was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Rockingham County, and was a daughter of the late Dewey Osby and Maude J. Dovel Ferrell.
She was a faithful member of the Elkton Pentecostal Church and retired from Alliance Manufacturing. She was a life member of the Shenandoah Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary and volunteered at RMH Hospice for many years. Margaret enjoyed crocheting and traveling and was a loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend.
Her husband, Edward H. "Big Mac" McAlister, preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, Guy Monger Jr. and wife, Deborah, of Shenandoah; daughters, Linda Rimel and husband, Nelson, Vickie Harmon and husband, Wayne, all of Shenandoah, Shelia Johnson and husband, Louis, Lisa McAlister and husband, Terry, all of Elkton, and Shirley Turner and husband, Billy, of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Louise Clem of Stanardsville; 18 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and three on the way. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Ann Monger Shifflett; son-in-law, Lebert Shifflett; grandsons, Jason Turner, Dustin Holloman, and a brother, Robert Ferrell.
The Rev. Travis Hensley will conduct the funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the Elkton Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow in the McAlister family cemetery in Page County.
The family will receive friends Monday (tonight) 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
