Mr. Chester M. Barnes, 75, a resident of Brown Teal Road in the Howell community, and a farmer, and a state highway equipment operator, died Saturday afternoon (May 11, 1996) at his residence. He was a native of Lincoln County and a son of the late Theo and Mary Lloyd Barnes. Mr. Barnes was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Maggie Pruitt Barnes of Howell; three step daughters, Donna Shepherd of Memphis, Diane Johnson of Howell, and Gail Star of Nashville; a stepson, David Graham of Woodbury; a sister, Jewel B. Thomas of Hohenwald; two brothers, Colyar Barnes of Howell and Teddy Barnes of Kelso; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Fayetteville Chapel of McCauley Funeral Home with Dennis Barnes and Jimmy Pigg officiating. Interment was in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill. Pallbearers were Wayne Barnes, Billy Ellis, Steve Barnes, Scott Johnson, Damon Star, and Brian Graham. McCauley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
