Rice Lake resident dies at age 102

"Tillie Black Demars, 102, of Rice Lake died Nov. 21 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services were Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rice Lake, with Rev. Kevin Gordon officiating. Burial was in Nora Cemetery.

Mrs. Demars was born March 18, 1894 to Michael and Theresa Schmidt in Bloomer. She later lived in Boyd, Kenosha and Menomonie before coming to Rice Lake, where she had lived since 1932. Her first marriage was to Louis Black. After their marriage, the couple farmed east of Rice Lake. In
December 1953 Mr. Black died. Mrs. Black later went to work as a waitress at the Omaha Bar and Lunch Counter in Rice Lake. In 1968 she married Elzear Demars, who preceded her in death in 1979. She then resided in Riverside Arms in Rice Lake until 1995, when she entered Heritage Manor Nursing Home.

Mrs. Demars had been a member of the Catholic Council of Women and the Women of the Moose. She also had been a member of the Rice Lake Senior
Citizens. Mrs. Demars is survived by a daughter, Merlyn Bruno of Brookfield; a son, Louis of Chetek; 11 grandchildren; several great and great-great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Lucille Zabel and Valoris Mazel, both of Rice Lake; and a sister, Laura Frye, a resident of the Rice Lake Convalescent Center."
