MEETS DEATH IN MINE
Driver in Mine No. 68 Caught Beneath Car and Instantly Killed.
Joe Fraulini, of Italian parentage and an ex-soldier having recently been discharged from the service, was instantly killed beneath a car in Mine No. 68 Wednesday. The young man was 25 years of age.
The young man was employed as a driver and was in the act of taking a string of loaded cars to the shaft when the fatal accident occurred. Just how he came to fall in front of the string of loaded cars may never be known. His body was dragged a distance of about nine feet and the front car derailed. He was dead when his body was discovered by another driver. His life had been crushed out almost instantly it was indicated. In some manner the mule had become unhitched from the cars and stood patiently awaiting a signal form the driver.
The body of the unfortunate young man was found wedged between the trucks of the car and the ties in the center of the track. He had not been touched by the wheels. It is said that he is survived by a father and mother in Italy.
The funeral of young Fraulini occurred Thursday and was one of the largest ever held here. Interment was made in St. Charles cemetery.
