Denzil Abney Sr., age 71, Kokomo, died Friday January 18, 2013. He was born April 20, 1941 in Mt. Vernon, KY, the son of Marion and Sally (Channey) Abney Sr. On August 14, 1960 in Sneedsville, TN, he married Opal Faye Abney, and she survives.

Denzil was a 1961 graduate of Berea Foundation, Berea, KY. He was employed by Chrysler Corporation for 30 years serving as a union steward. He also owned and operated Abney's Masonry for 50 years before retiring. He enjoyed construction, motorcycling, and playing cards.

In addition to his wife, Denzil is survived by; brothers, Preston Dolie Abney of Kokomo, Keytron Abney, Terry Abney, and John Gerald Abney, all of Montpelier, IN; sisters, Zella Miller, Faye Holbrook, and Barbara Johnson, all of Mt. Vernon, KY., Kathy Utterback, and Ruby Stone of Lexington, KY., and Ruth Nestleroad of Montpelier, IN; sons, Denzil Abney Jr. of Holland, MI., and Jeffrey Scott Abney of Kokomo; one daughter, Teresa Faye Smith of Miami, IN; grandchildren, Denzil Jacob Abney, and Andrew Douglas Rigsby of Holland, MI., Benny Hillis of Russiaville, and Joesphy Scott Rigsby of Lawrenceburg, TN; great-grandchildren, Kayla Hensley, Quiency Hensley, and Bailey Hensley, all of Kokomo, Aubree Hillis, and Jalen Hillis of Russiaville. He was preceded in death by; his parents; brothers Marion Abney Jr., Keith Ray Abney, and Tenon Abney, and one grandchild, Nicole Faye Regan.

Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon Tuesday January 22, 2013 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Gary Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.
