Served in Mexican War, Capt. Vaughn's Co., 5th Reg't (McClellan's) Tennessee Infantry; mustered into service 9 Nov 1847, Athens, Tennessee; Discharged at San Juan, 1 March 1848 by reason of surgeon's certificate. Also served in War of 1812 and in Indian Wars, including war with Florida Indians 1812-1814 (Red Stick War?) and Cherokee War 1837-1838 (2nd Seminole War). Possibly buried at Notchey Creek Cemetery. Father of Leander J. Garren who also served in the Mexican War.
