WHALEY, ELLOUISE ARIAIL - of Knox County died on January 16, 2013 at Parkwest Hospital.

She was born on March 19, 1932 at Ariail Village near Easley, South Carolina, to Doyce William and Helen Spearman Ariail, both of whom preceded her in death.

In 1944, she and her family moved to Sevierville, where she graduated from Sevier County High School and was an honor student at Carson-Newman College for one year.

On December 19, 1950 Ellouise married Paul Whaley, a Carson-Newman graduate who was also from Sevierville.

In 1956 they moved to the Karns Community where they made their home until 2001 and raised their family of six children. She was especially proud of the fact that all six children became college graduates.

For many years Ellouise was an active member of Beaver Ridge United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, president of the women's society, chair of the music committee and the kindergarten committee, which was the fore-runner of the present pre-school program. She also served as the church librarian for two years as well as being a volunteer at the Karns Community library. At the time of her death, she was a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Whaley Henderson, and her brother, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Doyce William Ariail, Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Whaley, and her five surviving children Anita Whaley Bay (Bob) of Cookeville, TN, Bill Whaley of Old Fort, NC, Cathy Whaley Rickman (Joe) of Charlotte, NC, John Whaley (Celeste) and David Whaley (Angela) of Knoxville.
