Son of Rev. Job (was a Methodist Minister) born August 16, 1769 in Branchville, Sussex County, New Jersey. His mother was Catherine Fink of Upshur County, VA. They moved to Ohio around 1800 and settled in Ross County. Job and Abraham's brothers, Henry and Daniel, were soldiers in the War of 1812, and were surrendered by General Hull at Fort Detroit. After the war the family moved to Vinton County. Abraham's father died of a cold plague while preaching on his circuit near McArthur in 1820.
