Fred Lewis Price Sr.

COLUMBIA, SC - Fred Lewis Price Sr., 88, died on Sunday, March 20, 2011. A funeral service will be held 2 o'clock Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Hope Baptist Church, 2117 Clemson Road, Columbia. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens where the family will greet friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. Price's nephews, Richard Price, Charles Price, W.D. Price, Terry Price, Mark Ammonds and Elbert Coward Jr. The Rev. Howard S. Price, Lewis Price, Reed Price and Olin Price will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Hope Baptist Church, (mailing address: 1301 Summit Parkway, Columbia, SC, 29229) Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mr. Price was born June 16, 1922, in Lee County, SC. He was one of 11 children born to William Kirkland Price and Rosa Truesdale Price. He moved to Columbia in 1939, where he worked in the glass business until volunteering for military service October 27, 1942, enlisting in the Army Air Corps and proudly serving during WW II until his discharge in 1946.
After his military service, Mr. Price worked in the glass replacement business until he founded ACE Glass Company, Inc., in 1964 in which he remained active and involved until his death. He also co-founded Blyco Glass Company, Inc. in 1958. Mr. Price was an active outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He loved to plant and work in his vegetable garden and gave away most everything he grew. Mr. Price was a member of Hope Baptist Church (formerly known as Eastwood Baptist Church)
Mr. Price is survived by his son, Fred Lewis Price Jr. and wife, Phyllis; grandson, Fred Lewis "Trey" Price III; granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Price Gillespie and husband, William; a great-granddaughter, Addison Grace Gillespie; a brother, Milton H. Price; sisters, Willene P. Coward and Viva P. Ammons; also a special friend, Ann Pate of Bishopville. In addition to his parents, Mr. Price was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Juanita Kelly Price; brothers, James E. Price, William D. Price, Charles W. Price, Roy D. Price, Robert F. Price and Clifton E. Price; also one sister, Margaret P. Marshall.
