"The LaFayette Sun" - May 6, 1908:

In Memory.

Mrs. Josephene Elizabeth Briskey (sic) was born in Troup County, Ga., July 21, 1839 and was married to J. N. Briskey in 1847. She departed life April 21, 1908 at the home of her only daughter, Mrs. Mollie Stephens, near Milltown. Her sickness was of short duration though her sufferings were intense. All was done that loving hands could do, but the cold hand of death could not be stayed. She was a devoted wife, a faithful and loving mother. Her husband preceded her only a few months. He was there at the pearly gates to welcome her from earth to heaven. She leaves two sons and one daughter with a host of friends to mourn her sad departure.
When we consider her time on earth we are made to become more submissive, for we have been blessed a long time with her sweet presence, and we can say mother and aunt, thou art through with the many cares and trials of this life and can enjoy the sweet rest that is reserved for the redeemed of earth, and where no farewells and said, no tears are shed. We cannot but be sad when we cannot see you or hear your sweet voice. Though we are deprived of your presence, let us, as younger ones, heed the many warnings of this dear mother and death will be a sweet comfort to us as it was to her, though hard to part with loved ones here on earth. But how sweet to meet with those gone before with our blessed Redeemer to welcome us home, and knowing that these who are left behind will one day meet on the other shore, where all will be one glad sweet song of praise to Him that was slain.

Not now, but in the coming years
It may be in the better land,
We'll read the meaning of our tears
And there sometime we'll understand.

AND....

Card of Thanks.

We are bowed down in sadness at the sad and untimely death of our dear mother, Mrs. Josephine Briskey, which occurred at her daughter's home near Milltown, Arpil 21, 1908. We wish to thank our never tiring neighbors and friends for their many favors rendered us during the sickness and death of our mother.
