OBITUARY FOR AVEND WALBERG SELLAND

Avend W. Selland, 82, of Lebanon died Wednesday at Villa Cascade Care Center.
Born in Scobey, Mont. to Thomas and Josephine (Smithmeyer) Selland, he moved to Washington, where he attended schools in Yelm. The family moved to Winlock, Wash., after his father's death in 1929.
Mr. Selland moved to Portland. He served in the Army in the Pacific Theater, during World War II. He married Valeta Wood on Aug. 31, 1946, in Portland.
In Portland Mr. Selland worked 10 years in the woolen mills and 25 years as a postal clerk in the Post Office. He retired in 1977 and soon moved to Lebanon.
He belonged to the American Postal Workers Union, the National Association of Federal Employees and the Lebanon First Assembly of God.
His wife of 55 years, Valeta, survives. He is also survived by son Norman of Portland; daughter Rhoda Bergler of Portland; sister Lettie Torsen of Camas, Wash.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Son Richard and two brothers and three sisters died earlier.
Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home.
Mr. Selland's funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the Lebanon First Assembly of God, Seventh and Oak streets, with Pastor Garland Rogers officiating. A private burial service will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Portland.
Contributions in his name may be made to the foreign Missions Fund, through the Assembly of God.
