Jacob Ressler Bair, a native of Buck's Valley, and many years ago a resident of Newport and Duncannon, died Saturday morning, following a long illness, at his home in Washington, D. C., where he resided for the past 30 years.
He had previously suffered three strokes of paralysis, but complications of diseases was the direct cause of his death. Mr. Bair was the last of a large family and was a blacksmith by trade and many years ago conducted shops in Newport and Duncannon. Until his incapacitation about 10 years ago, he was for a long period in the employ of the Washington, Baltimore & Annapolis Railway Company in Washington.
Jacob Ressler Bair, son of the late Jacob and Eliza Bair, was born in Buck's Valley, March 27, 1856. In 1878, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Stape of East Newport, who survives him with the following children: Mrs. William A. Snyder, Jefferson L. Bair, and Charles H. Bair, of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Ralph Snyder, of Duncannon, R. D. 1. Five children preceded him in death. Three grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Bair was a member of the Eastern Presbyterian Church of Washington, Lafayette Lodge of Masons of Washington, and the Jr. O. U. A. M.
Funeral services were held Monday evening from the Wright Funeral Home in Washington. The body was brought to Newport Cemetery Tuesday afternoon and following short services conducted by Rev. H. M. Vogelsonger, pastor of the Newport Presbyterian Church, interment was in the family burial plot in Newport Cemetery.
