Samuel Elias Bair, 75, formerly a resident of this place, died Monday at his home in Wilmington, Del., after being ill several years of a complication and after being bedfast about 7 months. He is survived by his wife, Mary Emma (Gingerich) Bair, son Harry E. Bair, Wilmington and daughter Miss Carrie E. Bair of Miami, Florida, who has been home several months on account of her father's illness. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Evelyn and Ethel Bair. When living in Newport Mr. Bair lived on South Second Street and conducted the blacksmith shop nearby. At Wilmington he had been employed at his trade by the P. R. R.
He was a member of the official board of Brandywine M. E. Church and a member of Oriental Lodge, No. 27, A. F. and A. M., both of Wilmington. The funeral was from the home Wednesday night. The body will be brought to Newport Thursday noon and taken to the Myers Funeral Home where short services will be conducted by Rev. H. F. Brumbaugh of the Newport M. E. Church. Interment in Newport Cemetery.
