Lois Summers Johnston, 95, of Caldwell, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at a Caldwell hospital with family at her side. Private committal services will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. Cremation was under direction of the Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
Mrs. Johnston was born July 25, 1911, in Niangua, Mo., to Jacob and Grace B. Summers. She moved with her family to Caldwell in 1925, graduating from Caldwell High School in 1928. She married Oral Johnston in 1934 and he passed away in 1961. Lois was an employee of Caxton Printers and witnessed the big Caxton fire. She retired in 1977 as secretary/treasurer of the Black Canyon Irrigation District of Notus. Upon retirement, she moved from Caldwell to Nampa, returning to Caldwell in 2001 to be near her family while residing at the PEO Chapter cottages. While living in Nampa, Lois was an active member of the Nampa First Congregational Church, a life member of the Caldwell Soroptimist and a charter member of Chapter BY, PEO in Nampa. She enjoyed working in her church, traveling with her good friend, Alice Horton of Nampa, reading, crossword puzzles and most of all her family.
Mrs. Johnston is survived by her son and his wife, Ted and Juanita; a daughter and her husband, Claudia and Ted Dawson; two sisters, Ruth Van Slyke and Hazel Root and a brother and his wife, Les and Betty Summers; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two brothers-in-law, Herbert Van Slyke and Alfred Root.
