Alice Elsie Arns, age 89, of Waverly, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.
Alice was born on December 9, 1923, in Dumont, Iowa, the daughter of John and Nellie (Sands) Bennett. She attended school in Dumont and graduated from the Finchford High School in 1942. Alice then moved to Cedar Falls where she worked for Regency Cafe, Hinson Manufacturing, Rath Packing Company and Rankin Manufacturing. On October 27, 1946, Alice was united in marriage to Leonard Arns at First Baptist Church in Cedar Falls. The couple then made their home on the Arns family farm Southwest of Waverly where Alice spent the rest of her working life farming alongside her husband. Leonard passed away December 14, 1996.
Alice enjoyed traveling; her adventures took her to Hawaii, Alaska, New Zealand, Mexico and Australia. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family.
Alice's memory is honored by: her daughter, Susan (Earl Martin) Dreesman of Waverly. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Leonard; four brothers; Roy, Roger, John and Henry Bennett, and three sisters; Liddie Bennett, Laura Sands, and Pearl Siems.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Bartels Good Shepherd Chapel in Waverly with Pastor Jon Hennings officiating. Burial will follow at Finchford Cemetery in Finchford, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and for an hour prior to services at Bartels on Saturday.
