On a sunny and mild January day, family and friends gathered to honor Sonny Wachter.

One lady remembered him as a person who was helpful and a good neighbor.

Sonny is buried beside his beloved wife, Pat. They met while he was stationed in Charleston, Maine while a sergeant with the Air Force 765th Squadron. Pat was a native of Bangor, Maine. Their engagement was announced in 1951. They settled and raised a family in Frederick, Maryland.

One of his nephews privately recalled that his uncle Marion Coleman taught Sonny much of what he knew about carpentry. Sonny attained master carpenter status and was employed by Montgomery County Maryland Public Schools for many years.

Sonny loved to garden, grow roses, surf fish, crab and barbecue. He built his own barbecue behind the he also house built himself.

He and Pat spent many enjoyable evenings playing cards with his sister Virgie and her husband Melvin. A niece recalled that the four were close friends as well as relatives.

Sonny was predeceased by his wife Pat in 2005, and son Terry in 1974. Terry is buried near his parents.
