Alfont/Alfonte was born in Philadelphia, PA,
probably in 1822. In 1834 he moved with his parents (
William Alfont and Elizabeth Freeborn)and siblings to
Madison County, Indiana where his father William
Alfont founded the town of Alfont. Robert grew up
there, married and had a family. His first wife, Nancy
Richards died in 1860. Robert served in the Union Army
and was discharged with the rank of Captain. He
married again to Amelia Brown in 1862 and had three
more children. The family moved to near Holden,
Johnson County, Missouri in about 1870. Robert died
there in 1873, from wartime injuries. His widow later
married Mark Phillips and eventually moved to
Oklahoma.
