William G. Trede, of Durant, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Lutheran Homes, Muscatine.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Durant. Burial will be in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or Durant Ambulance Service in his memory.

William George Trede was born March 15, 1907, the son of George and Alvena (Wulf) Trede in Cedar County. He married Loretta H. Puck on September 12, 1935, in Davenport. She died December 16, 1981.

He was first employed as an electrician for Pioneer Hybrids and later owned and operated Trede Electric in Durant for 27 years, retiring in 1972. He was one of the founders of the Durant Senior Citizens and was instrumental in organizing Durant Meals on Wheels. He was a former Cedar County Senior Citizen of the Year and a former member of Durant Library Board and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Durant. He enjoyed working on the history of Durant and the surrounding communities.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary (Larry) Erickson, of Durant; a son, Dale (Sandy) Trede, of Wilton; and three grandsons, Kirk Trede, Gregory Erickson and Nicholaus Erickson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, Dorinda Ormsby, a half sister, Wilma Gardner, a half brother, Roy Kruse and a grandson, Matthew Erickson.
