Edward Burton, b., October 13, 1796, on the Roanoke river, i Mecklenburg, County, Virginia and removed to Rutherford co., Tennessee and was there married to Frances Hudson, b. April 10, 1797 in Virginia also. They had five children in Tennessee.and migrated to Illinois in 1825. He took up his abode on Lick creek, in Chatham Twp, Sangamon co., where four more children were born. His death occured August 8, 1859 in Girard, Macoupin co.,Illinois, where he was attending the Sangamon presbytery of the Cumberland church, to which he was sent as a deligate. He also was a solder of the war of 1812 and was prominently identified with the early development of Sangamon co. Margaret his wife d. September 1, 1859, Sangamon co. Illinois.

Buried in the McDevitt cemetery, Loami Twp., Sangamon co., Illinois is: John Burton, b. in Micklenburg, Virginia, Pvt. Virginia Continental & Virginia Troops. Assume he may be the father of Edward Burton.
