The son of Abraham Wagaman and Mary Walden, John and his family moved to Carroll County, Missouri in 1846. At the age of 22, he was in charge of running the family farm in Wakenda Township since his father had died and his older brother, James, had left home.

John married Nancy Lee Powell on 25 Jul 1861 at the United Baptist Church in Carroll County. They were the parents of 8 children. John continued to work as a farmer.

The family moved to Beaty Township by 1880. Nancy died of tuberculosis in early 1884 at the age of 41.

Children from first marriage: 6 sons, 2 daughters.

John married Lucindia Mary Kindred on 19 Jun 1887. They were the parents of 2 children.

John was a member of the Star School Board for many years, and also was a member of the McGills Creek Baptist Church [aka Trotter Church]. He was a deacon there for over 50 years.

Lucindia died in 1919 at the age of 70.

Children from second marriage: 1 daughter, 1 son.

John died of arteriosclerosis and chronic bronchitis at State Hospital #2 in St. Joseph, Missouri. At the time of his death, he was 85 years, 6 months and 4 days old.

He was buried in Carrollton, Carroll County, Missouri on 24 Jul 1923. Rock Undertaking Company was in charge of arrangements.
