Author, Poet. As a poet he was inspired by the coastal landscapes of Öresund (the Sound) and its island Ven in Skåne, the southernmost Swedish county. His poem "Vid vakten" (At the watch), best known as "Flicka från Backafall" (Maiden from Backafall) with music by Gunnar Turesson, is one of the most persistent all-time evergreens in Scandinavia. Among his publications of poetry are ”Flaskpost”, 1920 and ”Kustland”, 1941. Gabriel Jönsson was born in the fishing hamlet Ålabodarna near Glumslöv, Landskrona, Skåne, where his father ran a small country store. In 1936 he married Anna-Margareta or "Annika" (1903 – 1991), a girl from Landskrona, in a life long union. The gravestone in the beautiful Glumslöv cemetery has the Swedish inscription: "Själv sjöng jag blott en liten stund. Sjung för mig evigt, Öresund!" (I sang myself just a little while. Sing for me forever, Öresund!) The magnificent view from Glumslöv’s hills across Öresund, towards Ven and Denmark, still fascinates visitors.
