James R. "Jim" Butzer, 87, of Cordova, IL, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Private graveside services will be held at the Cordova Cemetery, Cordova, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Friends and family are invited for refreshments and fellowship at the home of Jeff and Lisa Butler at 11:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to Special Olympics.
James R. Butzer was born March 18, 1925 in Hillsdale, IL, the son of Clarence Butzer and Lillian (Smith) Butzer. He served his country in the Navy during WWII on Canton Island, in the South Pacific, repairing damaged aircraft. Jim ran outdoor amusements for fairs and entertainment. He enjoyed his retirement years talking, trading and restoring Minneapolis-Moline tractors.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Butzer, Cordova; daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Butler, Cordova; sons, Gail (Tami) Dillin, Erie, Larry Dillin, Edwardsville, IL; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis Wolever, Erie. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jamie and a brother, Roger.
