Tom was born in Stilwell, Oklahoma to William Riley "Bill" and Ora (Smith) Burnett. He departed this life August 27, 1999 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 70 years, 9 months and 4 days. Tom was an old cowboy who rodeoed in his younger days and worked a on cattle ranch in Colorado. He was a truck driver for Stilwell Foods " Flowers Inc" for about 35 years before his retirement. When he was not working he was going coon huntin telling hunting stories and teaching the young guys how to hunt or navigate a semi truck through all the major cities in America "he new every curve, hill, speed trap and truck stop". After he retired he turned his hunting interest to rabbit hunting "listening to his beagles run" and doing a little trading for just about anything of value mostly just to visit "bs" with friends and family. He had been on the Stilwell City Council for a few years when he suffered a stroke at home and after a major heart attack while in the hospital he was not able to recover from, we lost him on August 9, 1999 at St. Johns in Tulsa. He is survived by his wife Sue (Powell) Burnett, three sons Tommy Dale and wife Betty of Colorado, Russell Dean Burnett of Minnesota, Ronnie Gene and wife Pam of Stilwell, two daughters Rhonda Nell Burnett of Stilwell and LaDonna Lynn and husband Clifton Brannon of Moody, Ok. Four step-children Joe and wife Velma Cashion of Lost City, Ok., Jackie and husband Lester of Lamm of Washington, Ronnie and wife Bonnie Cashion of Tahlequah,Ok., David and wife Annie Davenport of Stilwell, Ok. grandchildren Russell Dean Jr. and his older Diana of Oklahoma City, Amanda Burnett Katina Burnett, Jeff Renzelman, Nicholas Taylor-Burnett all of Colorado. Buck Burnett of Minnesota. Melanie Dawn Burnett of Tahlequah, Ok., Dylan Gene Burnett-Fuson and Cody James Burnett of Stilwell, Ok. and Heath Weston Brannon of Moody, Ok. Tom was a one of a kind original character always with a quick and to the point reply to any question or situation. He had these "sayins" and phrases that have stuck in my head "good and bad" and shaped my life for the better, he is missed every day by many!

Those old white lines are slowly fading, on this old highway that i roam. There's no street signs, no map is needed where this big rigs headed, on its way home. There's no cargo no not this time. I've done unloaded a world of strife. No log book entry, will be needed my names done there in the book of life. Those 18 wheels hear them humming rock of ages, I'm on my last run, my journeys over I've made heaven, I'm home you see.
Cant you hear, my big horn blowing, no more wide turns, left to make I'm on a straight run bound for glory where I'll apply the final brake. Angels are riding upon my shoulder hear them sing, Amazing Grace on this long highway to heaven where I'll retire in Gods embrace. I see the lights, There growing nearer I'm almost to that pearly gate where momma and daddy will be waiting. I'm coming home, I wont be late. Those 18 wheels humming rock of ages, I'm on my last run, my journeys over I've made heaven, My soul is free.
