Canajoharian Expires at 91
CANAJOHARIE, May 5—One of Canajoharie's oldest residents, Egbert Schoonmaker, 91, died at his home, 47 Wheelock Street, yesterday morning at 10 o'clock following a long illness.
Mr. Schoonmaker was born in High Falls, N. Y., February 18, 1858, and came to Canajoharie as a child. His wife, Ophelia King Schoonmaker, died in 1939. He had been prominent in the various circles of life in this village, particularly the Methodist Church. For many years he held offices in the church including trustee, treasurer and librarian.
Until the time he retired, Mr. Schoonmaker was known to nearly all of the local residents as he served with some of the retail merchants in the downtown area. He is survived by several nephews, nieces and cousins.
The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at the home on Wheelock Street, with the Rev. Charles Swartz of the Methodist Church and the Rev. Walter Krumwiede, S. T. D., of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Canajoharie Falls Cemetery.
