Born Feb. 7, 1925 in Ellisville, she was the daughter of Robert Augustus and Clara Emiline Lawton Atkinson. Smith was a retired telephone operator with Southwestern Bell and a former member of West Side Baptist Church. She was everything to her family. She was a very loving, caring and generous person.

Preceding her in death along with her parents, were her husband, Jeral L. Smith Jr.; sisters, Annie Lee Schrieber, Ruby Esther Andrews, and Mittie Ruth Enloe; and a son-in-law, Lynn May.

Survivors include her daughter, Sherry S. May of Baton Rouge, La.; a brother, Robert Charles Atkinson (Suzanne) of Stephens; and a grandson, Jason Ryan Beck of Baton Rouge. Surviving great-grandchildren are Jacob Ryan Beck, Justin Henry Beck, Greyson Beck, and Ryan Elizabeth Beck. Also surviving are a niece, Geneie Settje (Clay) and her children, Angela Crouse (Rob) and Jennifer Childress (David); a niece, Paula Gaubert and nephews, Randy Atkinson (Vicki) and Julian Andrews.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017 in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors with the Rev. Chris Warr officiating
