Dorothy "Dottie" Nanette (Larson) Houger, 95 of Bemidji died Friday, January 4, 2013 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Dorothy "Dottie" Nanette (Larson) Houger was born to Nannie and Nathaniel Larson in Rose City, MN on March 12th, 1917. She attended country school until the 8th grade when her family moved to Alexandria. At the age of 15, she went to work at the nearby Alexandria Hospital to help support the family due to her father's failing health. On October 5th, 1940 she married Daryl Houger in Osakis, MN. They had three children: Sharon Kay, Donald Eugene, and Nannette Joy. Over the years, the family lived in Faribault, Alexandria, Montevideo, and Park Rapids, MN where she was always active in church; teaching Sunday School, singing with Daryl, her family, and other choral groups. She will be remembered for her gracious hospitality, her beautiful cake decorating, baking, sewing and crafting skills. Sharing with friends and neighbors, she was always thinking of others before herself. Daryl passed away in 1987, and after selling their home, Dorothy lived in Park Rapids until 2009 when she went to live at Baker Park Apartments in Bemidji, MN. While there, she enjoyed many new friends, concerts and the weekly Bible studies. Until just before her death, she still loved to bake, crochet and play Scrabble. Her 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren were all very close and special to her.

She is survived by her children: Sharon (Paul) Hokuf of Pinewood, MN; Donald (Jean) Houger of Colorado Springs, CO; and Nannette (Thomas) Rohwer of Park Rapids, MN; grandchildren: Shawn (Jackie) Hokuf of Mendota Heights, MN, Stefan (Melissa) Hokuf of New Hope, MN, Erik (Sarah) Hokuf of Bemidji, MN, Chad (Tara) Hokuf of Bemidji, MN, Troy (Heidi) Houger of Colorado Springs, CO, Corey (Sarah) Houger of Colorado Springs, CO, Nicolle (Dave) Rolenc of Peyton, CO, Ryan (Veronica) Swartley of Sartell, MN, Grant (Mellissa) Swartley of Carpio, ND, Nicole Rohwer of Lake George, MN, Halisha (Brian) Gross of Nevis, MN, Shalane Rohwer of Fort Campbell, KY and 20 great-grandchildren; siblings: Lucille Nisen of Manhattan Beach, CA; Edmund Larson of Red Oak, IA; Grace Marciel of Fremont, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Virgil Larson, sister Viola Williamson, and son-in-law David Swartley.
