Charles F. Hovey, Jr., was born on April 21, 1949, in Davenport, a son of Charles F. and Doris (Swiger) Hovey. Chuck worked for Nestle Purina for over 41 years. He retired as the Senior Electrician. He was united in marriage to Barbara Sharfinski, originally from Wisconsin, on September 8, 1984.
Chuck enjoyed dogs and owned many varieties. He trained and showed a Dalmatian that won many ribbons and awards over the years. Chuck loved to garden and cultivated many brands of peppers; partial to hot ones. ("More hotter, more better!")
Chuck was a lifetime member of the Mississippi Valley Blues Society. He enjoyed Blues Cruises and many other travels with his wife, including China, Colorado, Florida, Wisconsin, and McGregor. Chuck and Barb did more traveling in the past year than many couples do in their entire marriage. His seven grandchildren brought great joy and pleasure to his life. Chuck was known as his families? Mr. Fix It. He was willing to pass on his assistance whenever needed. Chuck was a friend of Bill W for 28 years.
Memorials may be made to the ALS Association.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 26 years, Barbara; sons and daughters-in-law, Todd and Dixie Hovey and Brad and Anna Hovey; grandchildren, Lauren, Madisen, Sarah, Bradly, Ryan, Kelsey, and Claire, all of Davenport; his mother, Doris; siblings, Jan Nelson, Davenport, Kathy (Steve) Weiss, Coralville, Iowa, Karen (Dan) Howell, Donnellson, Iowa, Beverly Gomez, Grygla, Minn., and Jeff Hovey, Elkhorn, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother, Mike.
