DAVENPORT - Doris M. Hovey, 85, of Davenport, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 31, 2012. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013, at The Runge Mortuary, Davenport, with visitation Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to The Putnam Guild, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Online tributes and condolences may be made at www.therungemortuary.com.

Doris was born September 5, 1927, in Moline, the daughter of Clarence "Jim" and Esther (Anderson) Swiger, and grew up in Calamus, where she graduated from Calamus High School in 1945. She married Charles (Chuck) F. Hovey in Davenport.

Doris retired from the Rock Island Arsenal after 31 years of service. She was a member of the Moline Viking Club's Clara Lodge and Svithiod Club, Moline, and The Putnam Guild and L.I.F.T. in Davenport. Doris loved people and she is remembered for her kind, generous spirit. She never met anyone she didn't consider a friend.

Her family includes Janice Nelson, Davenport, Beverly Hovey Gomez, Grygla, Minn., Kathy (Steve) Weiss Coralville, Iowa, Karen (Dan) Howell, Donnellson, Iowa, and Jeffrey Hovey, Elkhorn, Wis.; grandchildren, Kristina Nelson of Davenport, Ryan Nelson, DeWitt, Iowa, Todd (Dixie) Hovey, Davenport, Brad (Anna) Hovey, Davenport, Elliot (Reed) Weiss, Seattle, Haley Weiss, North Liberty, Iowa, Calvin Weiss, Iowa City, Sarah Howell, Gilroy, Ca., Matthew Howell, Davenport, Jeffrey Hovey, Colona, Michael Hovey of Thompson, Ohio, Adam Hovey of Graniteville, S.C., Kelly Hovey, Trenton, S.C., and Rachel Hovey of Augusta, Ga.; as well as 11 great-grandchildren; and her special friend, Richard Bailey of Moline. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck, sons, Chuck Jr. and Mike, and her parents.
