Margaret Dore Durkin, 85, devoted mother and grandmother, died of cancer on Wednesday December 19, 2012 at her home with her daughters at her side. Marge, as she was known to her friends, was the mother of 5 children, an avid bridge player and devotee of politics. Marge spent 14 happy years living at Hilton Head Plantation with her late husband Vincent Durkin, followed by 7 years at The Cypress, enjoying serene surroundings, easy living and good friends. Prior to Hilton Head, Marge lived in Williston Park, New York and Ridgefield, Connecticut with her late husband William Dore, working as a bookkeeper and raising children Denis, Mary Ellen, Margaret, Carolyn and Elizabeth. Marge graduated from Fordham University Business School, where she was one of the first women to be admitted to the Alpha Beta Kappa National Honor Society. She is survived by her children, grandchildren Will, Nicholas & Charles, and brother Tom Heffernan. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, December 28 at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. A prayer service will be held in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Saturday, January 5 at 10:45 am, followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery .The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home on Saturday after 10 AM.
