"Mountain Spring," the Francis Marion Bledsoe home north of Sylacauga (now in the town limits) on the Sylacauga-Talladega Highway is often called the Oden-Bledsoe-Kelly house. Long known as the Kelly Place, it was the birthplace of Maud McLure Kelly and many of her siblings and their summer home even after their principle residence shifted to Calhoun County. Built in 1842 for Capt. Henry Penn Oden, it was called Mountain Spring when it was erected very near the old Mountain Spring Academy, an early boys school near the site. The house, still standing, is across the road and a few hundred yards north of the historic Oden-Hunter-Dickson house.

Francis Marion Bledsoe was killed in the Battle of Blakeley, in Baldwin County, Alabama. The Battle of Blakeley lasted from April 2-8, several hours after Robert E. Lee had surrendered at Appomattox, and so is often called the last major battle of the Civil War.

From the widow of F.M. Bledsoe, the Oden-Bledsoe farm passed to his daughter Leona Kelly and is still in possession of Kelly descendants today.
