Evelyn Sorenson, 100, of Cranfills Gap, Texas passed away Friday, Dec. 28 at Dove Hill Nursing Home, Hamilton, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church Cranfills Gap with burial following at Fairy Cemetery under the direction of Riley Funeral home in Hamilton. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Evelyn, daughter of Henry and Maymee Burden was born November 28, 1912, in Hamilton County. She was the oldest of nine children, having three sisters and five brothers. She is survived by a sister, Quata Powers, of Iredell, Texas. In 1934 she married Leonard Sorenson and was widowed in 1987. Evelyn is survived by three daughters Linda Olson, Jane Horner and husband Norman and Joan Rohne and husband Tony. She is preceded in death by an an infant son,Kenneth Duane Sorenson
and son-in-law Darryl Olson. She has six grandchildren, Darla Ashby, Brian Olson, Jana Lowery, Lori Ryan, Gary Anderson, Michael Anderson, and two deceased grandchildren Terry Anderson and Kay Olson Tuerck. She has eleven great grandchildren and five great-great grandsons. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sorenson attended college at Tarleton and Howard Payne obtaining a B.S. and M.S. in Education. She taught school in Hamilton and Bosque counties for 29 years. She was always proud of her students and was delighted when they would talk to her about their experiences in her classrooms. In addition to enjoying her family and friends, she was an avid gardener, and quilt
maker, making several award winners. Evelyn donated many quilts to various charities. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Cranfills Gap, teaching Sunday School until she was 90.
