Stanley A. Murphy, 68 of Waldron, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville. Stanley was born on November 30, 1944 in Rushville, Indiana, the son of Charles Cecil and Mildred (Apple) Murphy. Stanley was baptized as a child at the United Brethren Church in Andersonville. Stanley was a 1963 graduate of Greensburg High School. On August 11, 1968 he married Jacqueline Krise at the Flat Rock Christian Church.
Stanley served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the American Legion Post 129. He retired from Wonder Bread/ Hostess Cake in 1999 where he worked as a Route Representative. Many of his family and friends referred to him as "Stan Stan the Wonder Bread Man." He was a member of the Local 135 Teamsters Union. Stan loved bowling, he was a member of the American Bowling Congress, and a former President of the Sunday Night Mixed Bowling League and former Vice President of the Tuesday Night Men's Twilight Bowling league both at Blue River Bowl in Shelbyville. During bowling trips, he enjoyed visiting casino's all across the United States as well as collecting T-shirts and hats. Above all, Stanley loved spending time with his family and friends and he loved his Lord.
Survivors include his Wife- Jackie Murphy; Daughters- Laura (Grant) Hamner of Flat Rock, IN and Jennifer Spivey of Fairland, IN; Son- James A. Murphy of Shelbyville, IN; Sisters- Ellen (Danny) Terrell of St. Paul, IN and Joyce (Larry) Dove of Greensburg, IN; Brother- Dennis (Lucy ) Murphy of Greensburg, IN; Grandchildren- Brittany Hamner and Dylan and Joshua Spivey. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, and special friends. Stanley is preceded in death by his parents, one son-in-law Greg Spivey, one sister-in-law Judy Murphy, and his mother and father-in-law, Jack and Mary Lou Krise.
There will be a visitation for family and friends on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 from 4PM – 8PM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 2 at 1PM also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Shelby County Cancer Association.
