Elaine Lundberg
Elaine Caroline Nelson was born April 16, 1926, to parents, Carol and Estella Nelson. She had one younger brother, Marvin. Elaine and her family grew up on a farm in Lindstrom. She was involved in 4-H and loved animals and birds. She graduated from Chisago Lake High School in 1944, as valedictorian of her class. Just out of high school, Elaine married her high school sweetheart, Vernon Lundberg. The married couple moved to St. Paul, where Elaine worked as a secretary for Farm Bureau and Vernon went to college. A few years later, they moved to Rochester where Vernon worked as an engineer in the local radio station and Elaine worked at the bank. In 1955, they built a home in Little Canada. One year later they started a family. They had three children they were very proud of, daughters: Karin (Ed) Sellhausen, of Waconia; Wendy (Dennis) Fiene of Lindstrom; and son, Scott (Christine) Lundberg of Lindstrom. Elaine adored her four grandchildren: Mathew Campbell, Joshua and Jessie Fiene and Alyssa Lundberg. Elaine and Vernon were devote Lutherans. While living in Little Canada, they belonged to Christ the Servant Lutheran Church. Elaine was actively involved in the church. She taught Sunday School, was involved with the youth group and confirmation. Girls Scouts, and the PTA were other organizations she was involved in. In 1972, Elaine and Vernon moved back to Lindstrom and became active in Center City's Chisago Lake Lutheran Church. There she joined a quilting group. They owned and operated "Vern's Gardens." In 1986 her beloved husband of 41 years died. For the past few years, she had been living in Point Pleasant Apartments, in Chisago City. She enjoyed all the wonderful friends and neighbors she had come to know there. Elaine loved to travel and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. "Try to find something good in everyone and everything," was Elaine's motto. She was patient and kind to all that knew her. To her children and grandchildren, she was the best mother and grandmother anyone could have. She passed away April 11, 2002, surrounded by loved ones. She will be deeply missed. Funeral services were held Monday, April 15, 2002, at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church, in Center City, with Rev. Russell Peterson officiating. Music was provided by Joanne Nielsen and Lois Barott. Lois and also sung at Elaine and Vernon's wedding. Pallbearers were Robin Lundberg, Jim Lundberg, David Nelson, Don Nelson, David Koford and Mat Campbell.
